Confirmation
“When I was baptized, my parents brought me to church and got me started in faith. When I am confirmed, I will be taking responsibility for my own faith.”
-- A recent confirmation student at Lord of Life Lutheran Church
As children and youth grow in faith, the most important journey is from the head to the heart. The goal of Confirmation at Lord of Life Lutheran Church is to help students hear the good news of Jesus Christ and to let that good news travel the long journey from their heads into their hearts. We do that by using the widely acclaimed "Faith Inkubators" or FINK Confirmation program.
FINK is a fun and fast-paced program of learning, service, and fellowship for young people in 7th & 8th grade. It centers on Learning Events twice a month. With a PowerPoint presentation, creative activities, multi-media, games, and Bible Study, the students learn about God and explore what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
Confirmation includes parents and families as well as students. Faith is learned first in the home, so confirmation is a partnership between church and home. A tool for developing faith in the home is the FINK Home Huddle Journal. Between Learning Events, parents and students are asked to take 5 minutes each night to share “highs and lows” from the day, read a short Bible verse, and discuss how the verse relates to their highs and lows. Then they pray for each other and bless each other. In a world where parents and their middle schoolers may not have much time to talk about what matters most, the FINK Home Huddle makes sure they spend at least 5 minutes a day connecting and sharing about their lives and their faith!
