First Holy Communion

Welcome to the Lord’s Table!  Students age 10 and older are invited to participate in First Holy Communion class.  A parent takes the class along with his or her child.  Together the participants learn what the gifts of Jesus’ body and blood in this Sacrament mean for them.

The three-session class is usually offered once a year.  It includes interactive discussions and activities related to Baptism, along with Bible studies about the roots of Holy Communion in the Old Testament and beginning of the Lord’s Supper during Holy Week in the New Testament.  A highlight of the class is baking communion bread!  Students also practice how to receive the gifts of bread and wine at the altar.

After completing First Holy Communion class, the students receive their first Holy Communion in a Sunday worship service.  Parents, grandparents, godparents, and other friends and family members are warmly invited to share this milestone of faith in the child’s life.
