Weddings

Preparing for marriage is an exciting time for any bride and groom!  If you are looking for a church or a Pastor for your wedding, here are some guidelines for weddings at Lord of Life Church.

Weddings for members and non-members alike are performed at Lord of Life Lutheran Church.  In planning to have a wedding in the Church, the couple is seeking God’s care and continued support to sustain the gift of marriage.  Therefore, a church wedding is first of all a service of worship, praise, and prayer.  The Christian marriage service is for those who confess their faith in Jesus Christ, who will continue to seek a relationship with the church, and who desire the blessing of God for their life together as husband and wife.

The first step for non-members in seeking to have their wedding at Lord of Life Church is to come to one of our Sunday morning worship services.  That will help you determine whether this congregation is a place where you feel comfortable making your marriage vows before the Lord.  We want to support you in your new life together as husband and wife, and the best way for us to do that is to get to know you as part of our church community.

After attending worship, you and the Pastor will determine when to hold a first pre-marital counseling session.  All couples must meet with the Pastor for several conferences for pre-marital counseling and to plan the wedding service.  Those persons desiring to be married should call the Pastor as far ahead of time as possible in order to attend a worship service, arrange the counseling, and to reserve the church.  No other arrangements (i.e. reception hall, invitations) are to be made until the officiating Pastor is contacted and the date and time of the service is confirmed. The first contact with the Pastor should be at least six months prior to the wedding date.  Because of the solemn nature of our preparations for Jesus’ death and resurrection, weddings are not celebrated during Holy Week (the week before Easter).  Weddings will not be held prior to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

The Pastor of Lord of Life Lutheran Church is expected to officiate at all weddings held in the church.  However, if the bride and groom wish to have another ordained minister participate in the ceremony, it is strictly at the invitation of the officiating Lord of Life Pastor.  There are various fees associated with holding a wedding at Lord of Life Church, including building usage, musicians, and flowers.
