Social Ministry
The Social Ministry Committee reaches out with Christian love and compassion to many people in our congregation and community. We are involved with the community in a number of ways:
We support those in need:
- We provide support for “The Sharing Table,” a local food pantry for community members in need of food. We host, serve, and financially support “The Sharing Table,” which is located at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Willoughby Beach Road.
Lord of Life serves three times a year. Every Saturday guests can receive hot meals, free groceries, free coats, clothes, and information on health care services.
- Lord of Life, through the Mason-Dixon Community Services Neighbors in Need program in Harford County, sponsors four families in the Edgewood area during the Christmas season. We provide Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, presents for the children and parents, and a $100 gift card for the families to purchase whatever they needed most. Members of Lord of Life donate gifts, food, money and help deliver everything to the families. Each family also receives a handmade quilt and Bible. The families are very appreciative of how we help to make their Christmas truly special.
We reach out to others with the love of Jesus Christ:
- We have an active Prayer Chain, which lifts prayers to God and offers support to the community.
-
Team L.O.L (Lord of Life) participates annually in “Relay for Life” sponsored by the American Cancer Society. This event is held at local schools in Harford County, where our team of walkers relay to raise money to fight cancer. Come walk with us this year! For more information, please contact the church office at (410) 676-8063 or visit the “Relay for Life” web site at www.relayforlife.org/southharford.
- We also have a “School Supply Project” for collecting notebooks, pencils, and other essentials for our neighborhood schools. In 2008, with everyone’s donations of school supplies, we were able to give to Edgewood Elementary and Deerfield Elementary Schools each four big boxes filled with items. Everyone at the schools was very appreciative of these items that are used to make up school kits for the children to use in the classroom and at home.
- Other Social Ministry programs include Food for FISH, Baptism Parent Packs, greeting cards for college students and those in the military. We also supply the Seafarers boxes and handmade quilts by our Women’s group for the people in the U.S. and foreign countries. In the Narthex, you will find the box of donated eyeglasses for the Lions Club.
